PRELUDE
PROCESSIONAL HYMN [*Blue #477][GTG#299]
You Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim
1 You servants of God, your Master proclaim,
And publish abroad Christ’s wonderful name.
The name all victorious of Jesus extol,
whose kingdom is glorious, who rules over all.
2 Ascended on high, almighty to save,
He still remains nigh; his presence we have.
The great congregation his triumph shall sing,
Ascribing salvation to Jesus our King.
3 “Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!”
Let all cry aloud and honor the Son.
The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
Fall down on their faces, and worship the Lamb.
4 Then let us adore and give him his right:
All glory and power, all wisdom and might,
All honor and blessing, with angels above,
And thanks never ceasing, and infinite love!
WORDS OF WELCOME
ANNOUNCEMENTS
ADORATION
CALL TO WORSHIP Galatians 2:19-20
ONE: We have been crucified with Christ;
MANY: Now it is Christ who lives in us!
PRAYER OF THE DAY
All-powerful God, in Jesus Christ you turned death into life, and defeat into victory. Increase our faith and trust in him, that we may triumph over all evil, in the strength of the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
HYMN [GTG#419] Lord, Who May Dwell within Your House
1 Lord, who may dwell within your house or on your holy hill?
Those who do good and speak the truth, whose lives are blameless still;
2 Who have no guile upon their tongues nor harm their neighbor’s life,
But honor those who fear the Lord and turn away from strife;
3 Who do no wrong, but keep their word and seek no bribe or gain.
All those who do such things shall live and safe from harm remain.
REPENTANCE
CALL TO CONFESSION
SILENT CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. In your mercy, forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen.
ASSURANCE OF PARDON
GLORIA PATRI [Blue#579[ [GTG581]
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
THE WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED
1st SCRIPTURE Exodus 20:7
You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.
2nd SCRIPTURE Colossians 3:12-17
As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
ONE: The Word of the Lord
MANY: Thanks be to God
SERMON “Profanity without Words” Elder Robert Lowry
RESPONSE
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day, he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
RECEIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS
OFFERTORY
DOXOLOGY [GTG#606]
Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
Praise God, all creatures here below;
Praise God above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
HYMN [*Blue #376][GTG#366] Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
1 Love divine, all loves excelling, Joy of heaven to earth come down.
Fix in us thy humble dwelling; all they faithful mercies crown.
Jesus thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation; enter every trembling heart.
2 Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into every troubled breast;
Let us all in thee inherit; let us find the promised rest.
Take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be;
3 Come, Almighty to deliver; let us all thy life receive;
Suddenly return, and never, never more thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above,
Pray, and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.
4 Finish then thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee:
Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.
PARTING PRAYER
Almighty God, bless Your people. Give us Your peace, Your help, and Your love, for we are the sheep of Your pasture. Let us be united in Your peace— one in the Body, one in the Spirit, and one in the hope of our calling, all through the gift of Your endless grace. Amen
CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
RESPONSE [*Blue #525][GTG#69]
I, The Lord of Sea and Sky (Here I Am, Lord)
I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them. My hand will save.
Finest bread I will provide till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life for them. Whom shall I send?
Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.
