THE PEOPLE ARE GATHERED IN

PRELUDE   Softly and Tenderly   by Will Stockton

✝PROCESSIONAL HYMN [GTG#301] Let Us Build A House

1 Let us build a house where love can dwell and all can safely live,

a place where saints and children tell how hearts learn to forgive.

Built of hopes and dreams and visions, rock of faith and vault of grace;

here the love of Christ shall end divisions:

Chorus

All are welcome; all are welcome;

all are welcome in this place.

2 Let us build a house where prophets speak,  and words are strong and true, where all God’s children dare to seek to dream God’s reign anew.

Here the cross shall stand as witness and as symbol of God’s grace;

here as one we claim the faith of Jesus: Chorus

3 Let us build a house where love is found in water, wine, and wheat;

a banquet hall on holy ground where peace and justice meet.

Here the love of God, through Jesus, is revealed in time and space;

as we share in Christ the feast that frees us:Chorus

4 Let us build a house where hands will reach beyond the wood and stone to heal and strengthen, serve and teach, and live the Word they’ve known. Here the outcast and the stranger bear the image of God’s face;

let us bring an end to fear and danger: Chorus

5 Let us build a house where all are named, their songs and visions heard and loved and treasured, taught and claimed as words

within the Word. Built of tears and cries and laughter, prayers of faith and songs of grace; let this house proclaim from floor to rafter: Chorus

PRAYER OF THE DAY

Almighty God,

Your Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world.

May your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments,

shine with the radiance of his glory, that he may be known, worshiped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; for he lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [GTG#762] When the Poor Ones

1 When the poor ones who have nothing share with strangers,

when the thirsty water give unto us all, when the crippled in their

weakness strengthen others,

Chorus

Then we know that God still goes that road with us,

then we know that God still goes that road with us.

2 When at last all those who suffer find their comfort, when they hope though even hope seems hopelessness, when we love though hate at times seems all around us, Chorus.

3 When our joy fills up our cup to overflowing, when our lips can speak no words other than true, when we know that love for simple

things is better, Chorus

4 When our homes are filled with goodness in abundance, when we learn how to make peace instead of war, when each stranger that we meet is called a neighbor, Chorus

REPENTANCE

CALL TO CONFESSION

SILENT CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Merciful and loving God,

you have called us to be your people and claimed us for the service of Jesus Christ. We confess that we have not lived up to our calling

to proclaim the good news in word and deed We are quick to speak when we ought to listen and remain silent when it is time to speak

We put too much faith in our own actions and fail to trust the strength of your Spirit. O God, forgive our foolish and sinful ways

Strengthen us anew to follow Christ’s way in the world. By your Holy Spirit, give us the grace we need to be faithful disciples and fulfill our common calling; through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

✝GLORIA PATRI [Blue#] [GTG#762]

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,

and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning,

is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, amen.

THE WORD READ AND PROCLAIMED

1st SCRIPTURE                       John 2: 1-11

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to the servants, ‘Do whatever he tells you.’ Now standing there were six stone water-jars for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to them, ‘Fill the jars with water.’ And they filled them up to the brim. He said to them, ‘Now draw some out, and take it to the chief steward.’ So they took it. When the steward tasted the water that had become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the steward called the bridegroom and said to him, ‘Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now.’ Jesus did this, the first of his signs, in Cana of Galilee, and revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

2nd SCRIPTURE                                                   1 Corinthians 12:1-11

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, you were enticed and led astray to idols that could not speak. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says ‘Let Jesus be cursed!’ and no one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit.

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the discernment of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. All these are activated by one and the same Spirit, who allots to each one individually just as the Spirit chooses.

ONE: The Word of the Lord

MANY: Thanks be to God

 RESPONSE

✝AFFIRMATION OF FAITH         Apostles’ Creed

I BELIEVE in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,  and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

RECEIVING OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY   Blest Are They  arr. David Haas and Michael Joncas

✝ DOXOLOGY [GTG#606]

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise God above, ye heavenly host;

Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

✝HYMN [GTG#296] Go in Grace and Make Disciples

1 Go in grace and make disciples. Baptize in God’s holy name.

Tell of death and resurrection; Easter’s victory now proclaim.

Christ’s commission sends us forth to the nations of the earth.

Go in grace and make disciples, midwives for the world’s rebirth.

2 Go and follow Christ’s example, not to vanquish, but to heal.

Mend the wounds of sin’s divisions. Servant love to all reveal.

Roles and ranks shall be reversed; justice flow for all who thirst.

Go and follow Christ’s example. Forge a world of last made first.

3 Go in Pentecostal spirit, many tongues and many gifts.

Feed the hearts of hungry people. Spread the gospel that uplifts.

Till the day of Christ’s return, as disciples, teach and learn.

Go in Pentecostal spirit: let God’s flame of witness burn.

✝PARTING PRAYER

Almighty and eternal God,

by your grace you have called us to this time and place to be your servant people as we follow our servant Lord. Make your Holy Spirit move within and among us, that together we may live a new life in the crucified and risen Christ. Bind us together in faith, so that as we receive all spiritual gifts needed to fulfill our calling, we may support one another in common ministry; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
